The Welsh Language Board recently celebrated National Parents Week with the launch of its latest bilingual bundle in the Bounty pack for new mothers in all parts of Wales. The Board’s bundle, which has formed part of the Bounty pack for 4 years, encourages new parents to raise their children bilingually, and includes a wide range of information on the language. The latest bundle also includes a special bilingual 'Child on Board’ car sticker and birthday card for the new baby from S4C. The pack also includes the new 'Give your child the chance’ leaflet, which outlines the benefits of raising children bilingually.Meirion Prys Jones of the Welsh Language Board said:“We believe that producing information for the Bounty pack is an important part of the Board’s work. With over 31,000 packs distributed in Wales every year, all new mothers who give birth in Welsh hospitals now receive information on raising children bilingually.“Our bundle is part of the Board’s language transmission scheme. Although we have now appointed Iaith Cyf to undertake the fieldwork on our behalf by working closely with health visitors and midwives on a local level, the Board’s bundle is still a useful and important tool for us when encouraging new parents to speak Welsh with their baby from the beginning.”S4C has also included a special Sali Mali birthday card for the baby as part of the latest bundle. Eleri Twynog Davies, S4C’s Head of Marketing said:“The bundle for new parents is an excellent opportunity for us to introduce S4C’s wacky and wonderful Welsh programmes to youngsters. S4C’s Planed Plant Bach slot includes a wide range of popular programmes – from firm favourites like Sali Mali and Tecwyn y Tractor to puppet programmes like Pei Pwmpen – and we’re confident that the channel’s youngest viewers will have years of pleasure watching our programmes.”
